The Middletown Fire Department, located on Wyatt Road is expanding by 13,000 square feet and is being renovated to keep up with community demands and advancing technologies.
The two-phase expansion first required the relocation of the site’s police station to a new facility, followed by additions to the existing municipal building. These add-ons include two large bays to house new equipment and the construction of an office and training space. The former police station is undergoing renovations to serve as the Department of Public Works’ new offices.
DiPrete Engineering provided the project’s site planning and engineering services. By utilizing low impact development strategies, DiPrete incorporated the new RI Department of Environmental Management’s (RIDEM) stormwater requirements into the site design. The firm designed vegetated swales to carry rain runoff to an expanded stormwater basin, eliminating the need for a costly pipe network.

Tom O’Loughlin, Director of the Middletown Department of Public Works plans to use the new facility as a model of RIDEM’s new stormwater requirements.
Drummey Rosane Anderson, Inc. of South Windsor, CT and John C. Carter & Company Landscape Architects are providing the project’s architectural design and landscaping services. In addition to site engineering, DiPrete Engineering obtained approvals from the Town of Middletown Planning Boards, Newport Water, Middletown Sewer, and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management.
