Emerson Torrey Helps Organize Tom Petty Hurricane Relief Concert

Last month, a group of local musicians, including DiPrete Engineering’s very own Director of Information Technology, Emerson Torrey, held a concert called “A Higher Place,” to benefit those affected by 2017’s treacherous hurricane season across parts of Texas, Florida, and the Caribbean. Not long after deciding to hold the hurricane relief concert back in October, classic rock musician Tom Petty passed away.

“Right then, we knew we wanted to feature songs of Tom Petty’s at the benefit,” said Emerson. “Not only would be raising funds for a great cause, we would also be honoring a musical artist whom many loved.”

The show included performances by 30 musicians divided into three core bands. Each band played 12-15 songs.

Musicians included: Rick Bellaire, Jimmy Berger, Karen Cappelli, Paula Clare, Cathy Clasper-Torch, Rick Couto, Mark Cutler, Scott Doggett, Bro Dunn, Mark Grimm, Bob Guisti, Bill Jette, Klem, John Larson, Sarah Lupo, Jen MacPherson, Tanya McIntyre, Richard Reed, Kenn Reynolds, Richard Ribb, Dave Richardson, Carleen Sauvageau, Paul Sauvageau, Richard Sage, Mike Tanaka, Emerson Torrey, and John Turner.

“Everyone did an amazing job,” added Emerson. “It’s always great to see the community come together to help others and that was exactly what this concert was about. I’m very proud to have been involved in such a monumental event.”

Proceeds from the concert went to One America Appeal, a nonprofit that raises and distributes funds for hurricane relief in U.S. states and territories, such as Puerto Rico.
