David and Molly Titus

You may have noticed that Senior Project Engineer Molly Titus doesn’t generally wear a large hat to work. She and her husband, David, donned their racing attire for a Kentucky Derby themed fundraiser at Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State. “I wore a hat, it was big and crazy,” said Molly, “He had a bow tie and a very formal suit.”

Molly attended as a sponsor on behalf of DiPrete Engineering. The event was held at the Hyatt Regency in Newport.

Mario Hilario of WJAR NBC-10 was front and center as host and emcee for the evening and Jim Braude, host of Boston Public Radio’s weekday talk show, took bids as auctioneer. Entertainment was provided by The Bit Players, Zach Matook, the University of Rhode Island Ballroom Dancers and Nancy Paolino & the Black Tie Band. Photographer David Lee Black Studios captured photos of attendees with a Kentucky-Derby-looking horse.

“It was a great time,” she added. “A lot of fun.”

The annual event — with 350 supporters in attendance — featured silent and live auctions and was the most successful year so far. The $120,000 net total raised will go to support the non-profit organization’s mentoring programs.
